Tidjane Thiam
Ex-CEO Credit Suisse devenu PM.
Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire, Tidjane Thiam embodies a rare path between international high finance and African public service. A graduate of École polytechnique and Mines Paris, and a former McKinsey partner, he held ministerial responsibilities in Abidjan in the 1990s before leading Prudential, becoming the first Black chief executive of a FTSE 100 company, and then Credit Suisse from 2015 to 2020. A member of the International Olympic Committee, he returned to Ivorian political life and now heads the government of one of West Africa's largest economies.
He brings global experience in finance and governance to the running of a state, at a moment when West Africa is seeking new models of growth.
