From Kanye in Botswana, Letsile Tebogo first drew attention by winning the world under-20 100 metres title twice, then took silver over 100 metres at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. At the Paris 2024 Games he won gold in the 200 metres, earning Botswana its first Olympic gold medal and becoming the first African champion in the event. His homecoming prompted a national public holiday. Named World Athletics male athlete of the year, he embodies the rise of African sprinting on the world stage.
