Lisa Su
A relancé AMD. Fortune Most Powerful.
Born in Taiwan and holding a doctorate in electrical engineering from MIT, Lisa Su spent more than a decade at IBM pushing the limits of semiconductor design before joining AMD in 2012. Appointed chief executive in 2014, when the company was in deep trouble, she bet on a new processor architecture, won back the PC, server and gaming-console markets, and positioned the group at the heart of the race to build chips for artificial intelligence. Under her leadership, AMD's market value has grown many times over.
Her turnaround of AMD ranks among the most remarkable in recent technology history, a measurable impact matched by a leading role in an industry now strategic to the world economy.
