Mo Ibrahim
Prix Mo Ibrahim ($5M) : plus gros prix leadership.
A Sudanese-born engineer, Mo Ibrahim made his fortune by proving that mobile telephony could thrive in Africa: Celtel, the operator he founded in 1998, connected millions of subscribers across more than a dozen countries before its sale in 2005. He then created the foundation that bears his name, devoted to governance and leadership on the continent. Its Ibrahim Index of African Governance has become a standard reference, and the Ibrahim Prize, worth five million dollars, honors former heads of state who governed well and left office democratically.
He has put entrepreneurial success in the service of a demanding idea, good governance as the engine of development, and measures its progress year after year.
