Juliana Rotich
Pionnière tech kenyane. Crowdsourcing de crise.
A Kenyan technologist, Juliana Rotich co-founded Ushahidi in 2008, a crowdsourced mapping platform first built to document post-election violence in Kenya and since deployed in dozens of countries, from the Haiti earthquake to humanitarian crises worldwide. She went on to co-found BRCK, which designs rugged connectivity hardware for underserved regions, and helped establish Nairobi's iHub, the incubator of East Africa's technology scene. A TED Senior Fellow, she has also led financial innovation programs at Safaricom, the operator behind M-Pesa.
Her tools, built in Africa for the world, changed how citizens document crises: measurable impact and international reach that grew out of societal commitment.
