Selina Leem
Plus jeune négociatrice COP21.
Born in the Marshall Islands, a Pacific archipelago that rises barely two metres above sea level, Selina Leem became the youngest delegate at COP21 in Paris at 18, speaking alongside minister Tony de Brum as the Agreement was adopted. She has since represented small island states in climate negotiations and international forums, reminding audiences that the 1.5 degree target is a matter of survival for her country. A poet and storyteller, she blends personal testimony with advocacy to keep global attention on the nations most exposed to rising seas.
She gives a face and a voice to the countries that contributed least to warming and suffer most from it, with a persistence that has earned the respect of seasoned negotiators.
