Vanessa Nakate
1ère activiste climat ougandaise mondiale. 27 ans.
Born in Kampala, Vanessa Nakate began a solitary climate strike outside Uganda's parliament in 2019 before founding the Rise Up Movement to amplify African activists' voices. She rose to international prominence by insisting that Africa, the continent least responsible for emissions yet among the most affected, be heard in the global climate conversation. A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and author of A Bigger Picture, she speaks at United Nations climate conferences and has launched a programme installing solar panels and clean cookstoves in Ugandan schools.
Before turning thirty, she shifted the centre of gravity of the climate debate toward the most vulnerable countries, with global reach and concrete action on the ground.
