Nayib Bukele
Criminalité réduite de 70%. Bitcoin.
An advertising entrepreneur before entering politics, Nayib Bukele served as mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán and then of San Salvador before winning the presidency of El Salvador in 2019 at the age of 37, outside the two parties that had dominated the country for decades. His security policy produced a dramatic fall in homicides in a nation once ranked among the most violent in the world, earning him exceptionally high approval ratings and re-election in 2024. He also made El Salvador the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender, and his direct, social-media-driven style is studied across Latin America.
His measurable and closely watched results on public safety have turned a small Central American nation into a case study for governments around the world.
